Anja Holst

Anja Holst with Elise
Apprentice Trainer, Groundwork
Anja (pronounced "Enya") is a native of Denmark who moved to Colorado to learn how to improve her training through Natural Horsemanship as taught by Pat Parelli. Now she's moved to Ohio to become an Apprentice Trainer at DHF to study under Jen Truett so that she can enhance her skill set to include ridden work.
As some of you may know, Jen has never been impressed with anyone she saw who claimed to be "Parelli" trained - until she met Anja. Anja has managed to combine her gift in ground work with Ride With Your Mind (RWYM) principles she's learned from Mary Wanless.
Anja's groundwork builds a trusting, respectful relationship between horse and rider through teaching a basic communication language based on reactivity. Through this work, the horse develops confidence in their ability to garner a positive response from their human leader using the same reactivity principles that Heather Blitz and Mary Wanless teach. The horse learns the expectations and boundaries of a working relationship in a simple and straightforward way since there is no communication complication caused by a rider giving indiscriminate or confusing aids. These important lessons learned on the ground directly translate to the under saddle work and enhance the relationship between horse and rider since the bond of understanding and trust becomes even stronger once the horse and rider speak the same language.
Jen has seen a lot of horrible Parelli work and has had to fix many horses that were Parelli trained but unmanageable outside of the "Parelli Games." Anja is different and has a true gift for working with horses of every background and difficulty, so much so, Jen has her working regularly with her own competition horses, Sunset and Lafayette, and is ecstatic with the results. You can't get higher praise than that.
Anja Holst teaches Horsemanship, Ground Manners, Starting Young Horses and Trailer Loading using the Parrelli System.
