Local Activities
Lebanon is a town of antique shops, art galleries and lovely gift shops. There are several charming ice cream shops (the one with the red striped awning was in the movie "Harper Valley PTA" - the town itself was also in the film "Milk Money"), even a cup cake shop and a chocolate shop. One block off the main drag is a well-equipped feed store, Landmark Feed, should you run short of something. The Tack Trunk on US 42 just a mile or two out of town, is one of the most complete English tack shops you'll see, and it has a lot of lovely gifts too. It's across the street from Liberty Western, in case you need anything for western-riding friends.
Each May since Dancing Horse Farm opened, Jen's mom, sculptor (and webmistress/marketing director/newsletter editor) Lynda Sappington (link shows her artwork) hosts an equine art show. The first one was part of the DHF Grand Opening festivities, but it has grown and changed a lot since then. From being held in the boarders' tack room in Barn 1 the first year and in the classroom above Barn 1 for a few years after that, the DHF/WHS (Dancing Horse Farm/Whimsy Hill Studio) Equine Art Show is now held in Picture This Gallery, 26 S. Broadway, Lebanon OH. We normally have entries from all over the USA as well as Canada and The Netherlands. The show is open to professional equine artists and includes a special division for DHF clients (this is an amateur division open only to DHF clients and staff). Best in Show for the professional show wins $100! Other cash prizes are being worked out. (Donations/Sponsorhips are welcome! Contact Lynda Sappington for information.) If you're interested in entering, the prospectus is here: Prospectus
Each June, there's an art fair in the streets of Lebanon. Mulberry Street is closed off then because artists are there selling their wares from tents. The art ranges from silly fun things to wonderful paintings and glassware.
The first weekend in December, Lebanon hosts a carriage parade. It's free to watch, and they go twice a day on that Saturday. The evening parade features lights on the carriages and horses, which adds to the fun. A lot of the shops in town will have horse-related gifts, etc., as part of the festivities.
If you come to a clinic and your family comes with you, send them to King's Island to entertain themselves while you work on your riding. Or plan to stay an extra day to visit the park. It's a huge amusement park, with rides and entertainment for everyone, and it's not far from Lebanon.
You can find the dates for these and other annual festivals and information on other activities in Lebanon at the Lebanon Chamber of Commerce site.
