Congratulations! You're ready for a show!

DHF 2011USDF Youth Team
The challenge of testing your skills will be fun and rewarding. At DHF, our primary goal is to make sure you experience both. If you are just beginning your horse show career, take a minute to review Showing 101 and the Show Checklist. DHF Instructors maintain a very busy competition schedule and are always happy to provide Show Coaching to DHF clients.
If you would like to schedule a lesson with a DHF Instructor at the show grounds, please sign up ahead of time. Horses currently in training with DHF are encouraged to schedule a lesson prior to arriving at the show grounds. If this lesson exceeds the number of training/lesson rides for the week as agreed on in your training package, there will be an additional lesson charge. Warm-up assistance is also available on show days and needs to be coordinated in advance.

- If you need assistance with horse transportation to/from the show grounds, please discuss your needs with DHF Staff as early as possible so that accommodations can be made
How to sign-up for shows
DLSC Schooling Shows vs. USDF Recognized Shows
A sign-up email will be distributed to allow competitors to sign up for schooling assistance, lessons and hauling at shows. As always, early planning is appreciated and will be helpful in avoiding any scheduling conflicts.
Dayton Local schooling shows have a straightforward entry form available for download at www.trailsend.biz. Please be considerate of the Show Secretary and write legibly and complete the entry in its entirety.
USDF Recognized shows have a complicated entry and can penalize you for errors and omissions. It is in your best interest that you make the Secretary happy, not frustrated!
1. If you are a DHF student or have a horse in training please list “Jennifer Truett” as “coach” on your entry form. Be sure to sign your name as Trainer since you are responsible for the care of your horse while on the show grounds. Remember to sign all applicable boxes (rider/owner/trainer) on the back of each show entry form. Alternatively, "Trainer" implies one who is ultimately responsible for all decisions regarding the horse while at the show.
2. The DHF Instructor membership information for the entry form is as follows (Copies of cards are available upon request): Jennifer Truett: USEF: 221777, USDF: 23091
3. Be sure to request to be stabled with “Dancing Horse Farm” so that all our horses will be assigned stalls together. Feed and hay will be provided by DHF for boarders. Non-boarders are responsible for their horses' hay and feed while at shows. Each owner is responsible for the care of their horse when leaving DHF. We also recommend you request (or purchase beforehand) extra shavings (4 bags to start, plus 1 new each day) on your entry form since most shows only provide one initial bag.

Jen's Words of Wisdom
Shows do not give refunds in 99% of cases, so don't give them your money until it's absolutely necessary. Wait until very close to the closing date before entering a show in case something comes up that prohibits you from showing.
Never enter more than 2 classes per day and we usually compete on Saturday/Sunday. We normally travel and get the horses settled in on Friday and leave for home on Sunday afternoon/evening.
I recommend paying the Regional Championship qualifying fee for only Saturday's test (the highest test of the level showing). There is a tedious refund process to get the $10 qualifying fee refund from Sunday's ride - if refunds are offered. You can always pay the qualifying fee for Sunday if you sign up and pay the show secretary before the start of your class.
Make sure you indicate if you are an AA or junior rider because they will use that information to split the classes.
You and your horse will be stressed in the show environment. Under such conditions, and to give yourself the opportunity to exhibit the best performance possible, compete one level below your current competency. It is the best way to reduce unnecessary test stress. If you are unsure what level to show, please contact me.
