About DHF’s Summer riding Camps...

DHF’s Riding School Day Camps are a fantastic way for children and youth to experience the joy of horses. In addition to riding lessons, campers learn all aspects of caring for horses such as grooming, tacking, handling, feeding, care of tack and equipment, and safety. Campers develop important life skills like confidence, teamwork, and responsibility while having lots of fun in an encouraging learning environment including horse-themed activities, arts and crafts, and scavenger hunts.
In previous years we have held mock shows, designed jump courses, run relay races, had water balloon fights, ridden bareback, practiced lunging, gone on trail rides, and even painted horses pink! We make the camps very fun for kids of all ages, but there is always a strong focus on improving riding skills and horse knowledge. All of our activities (except the water balloon fight!) are designed to help our campers grow as equestrians, all while creating some wonderful memories and lasting friendships!
Campers who are unable to tack up and control their horse on their own will have all necessary assistance from a knowledgeable DHF working student, and the camps are all run by a DHF instructor. Campers who are more independent will be able to ride in groups and also receive individualized instruction during camp. Children often progress more in one week of camp than they would after two months of weekly lessons.
All of our camps go from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. Summertime can be hot, so we encourage all campers to bring lots of cold beverages (we have a refrigerator available) and a snack. Campers will need to wear long pants and sturdy shoes with at least a 1" heel. Helmets are available for those who do not have their own. A change of clothes for after riding is also helpful, but all shoes must still be safe to wear around horses, so no sandals! We ask that parents be on time for drop offs and pick ups, and we always welcome parents to stay if they wish. All campers or parents/guardians must sign a liability waiver before participating in camp.

The Intermediate rider camp is for riders who are comfortable trotting on their own. Each rider will be assigned a horse at the beginning of each day, or you can bring your own.
