I wasn’t an athletic or coordinated child and only found fitness in adulthood. I never would have considered myself an athlete before Jen. She taught me very specific bio-mechanical concepts and gave me confidence that I could learn even more. There was notable progress from one clinic to the next, and each one taught me at least a couple building blocks on what came before.
Because of Jen, I developed feel, both for my own body and my horse’s and the almost magical ability to use my mind’s eye to see very small, separate parts of my body and what they were doing. Jen taught me to influence minute muscles through detailed description and imaginative images. If it weren’t for her, I could never have ridden the horse I have now who has progressed from not ready for Intro level to 2nd level in 3 years. And I am confident Jen will get us not just to 3rd but to my goal of PSG in our lifetime. If we don’t reach those specific milestones, I will have concrete accomplishments that I can measure in what my body can do and what my horse’s body can do. Jen’s Mary Wanless background is absolutely essential to creating an effective, dynamic position, and Jen’s lifetime of experience adds even more dimensions to influencing and understanding the horse.
When I say she changed my life, it isn’t just the exciting changes she’s made to my riding. I am more comfortable physically and psychologically in my body than I’ve ever been. The changes that have made my riding better have improved my body off the horse. It hurts less. It has better balance. It feels more elegant and connected moving through space. Even at 50, I feel younger in my body and in my mind than I did at 40, and Jen is my secret weapon, my fountain of youth.
"The goal of my Dare 2 Dream training system is to enable clear communication between horse, rider and coach while staying cognizant of the horse's emotional state."
